Adult Forum
The Adult Forum meets each Sunday during the school term at 9:45
a.m. in Room 0012 Westbrook to discuss a variety of issues relevant
to Bible study, theology, and ethics. Teachers include Chapel
staff, Duke faculty, community leaders and Congregation members.
Examples of topics covered in the past are a Christian response
to cloning, race relations in America, Viktor Frankl and the
search for meaning, science and religion.
Disciple Bible Study
Disciple is an intensive Bible Study offered from September through
May each year. Each class incorporates assigned daily readings,
a two-hour weekly meeting, and videos by well-known Biblical
scholars. Disicple I provides an overview of the Old and New
Testaments. Disciple II, III, and IV offer in-depth studies of
all the books of the Bible. Classes are generally taught on weekday
evenings.
Parent's Lectionary Study Group
Parents of children and youth meet in the Chapel basement kitchen
on Sunday mornings to study and discuss the current week's lectionary
texts in close proximity to their off-spring.
Companions in Christ
Companions in Christ is a series of classes in spiritual formation
which incorporate daily readings, journaling,and a weekly meeting
that includes worship. The eight -week sessions are devoted to
various topics including forgiveness, grace, and blessing.
Classes are offered during weekday mornings or evenings
Congregation Overnight Retreat
The Adult Education committee sponsors an annual retreat with the
Chapel dean over a Saturday night and Sunday morning which concludes
with lunch. The topic in 2008 is "Being Community, Being
Church."
