Altar Guild
The Altar Guild serves the Chapel in caring for the altar and
processional pieces and the baptismal font. The guild also provides
bread and wine for Chapel communion services, preparing the chalices
and bread for these services, and cleaning up afterwards.
The napkins and cloths for the monthly communion services are
laundered by the altar guild.
The Memorial Chapel communion service each Sunday is the responsibility
of the Congregation. The pastor schedules the presiding minister
and the servers as needed.
The altar guild supplies the wine, and the pastor or the dean's
staff assistant supplies the bread. The chapel attendant cleans
up. The chapel hostess is responsible for sending the napkins and
altar covers from this service to the laundry.
Nursery
A nursery is provided for young children
to use during the Sunday morning service in the Chapel basement
kitchen area. Parents are
given pagers to take with them to facilitate easy communication
should they need to be contacted by the nursery attendants. A committee
made up of Congregation members oversees the operation of the nursery
and purchases supplies.
Money Counters
Members volunteer to count the offering after each
Sunday service and store it in locked bags.
Ushers
Congregation ushers along with student ushers serve as greeters
each Sunday morning and for special services at Duke Chapel. They
also distribute bulletins, collect the offering, and offer other
assistance as needed. They provide crucifer and torchbearer for
non-academic Sundays.
